As the bright moon shines over the sea, from far away you share this moment with me. This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival was quite special for the new international students of Shanghai International Studies University. The "Snow-Skin Mooncake Workshop", organized by the Office of International Student Affairs (OISA) was held on 13:30 September 24, 2018.
As part of the welcoming activity, this activity aims to help the international students adapt to their study life in Shanghai as well as to help them deal with homesickness. In the meantime, the activity organizer also take this opportunity to let the international students learn more about the Chinese traditional festival through the making of mooncakes.
This workshop has invited Ms. Zhou Li, lecturer from the School of Chinese Studies and Exchange, to coach the international students in making snow skin mooncakes. Ms. Zhou has taught every step patiently, starting from making the skin, weighing the fillings to teaching the process as well as packaging. Students who participated in this activity have also focus themselves in making their first mooncake.
Along with the melody of Mid-Autumn Music, the students have also improved quickly. Finally, they finished it along with pride and happiness. The activity lasted two and a half hours, students have all made their first box of hand-made crystal mooncakes and the activity ended in a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere.
At the end of the activity, one of the student said excitedly, "This is my first Mid-Autumn Festival in China and I learned how to make mooncakes. WOW! ". While other students were planning to let their family share the sweetness and joy, they have taken pictures of the raw materials used and asked the teacher about the way of purchasing.
