At the invitation of Ms. Hannelore Lee-Jahnkee, Honorary Chairman of Conférence Internationale permanente d'Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interprètes (CIUTI) and Mr. Martin Forstner, Secretary-General of CIUTI, Cao Deming, President of SISU, Zhang Ailing, Dean of GIIT and Chai Mingjiong,Honorary Dean of GIIT, attended the CIUTI Forum from January 15 to 16, 2015, which was held in the Palace of Nations, Geneva, Switzerland with a theme of “Pillars of communication in times of uncertainty: Correctness of language, confidentiality, and credibility”. On January 14, as soon as they arrived at Geneva, they participated the Chinese session hosted by Li Zhengren, distinguished professor of SISU. Officers from Conference Services Division of UNOG, directors of relevant departments, leaders of CIUTI and Translators Association of China (TAC) and representatives from universities and cooperatives also attended.
During January 15 and 16, presidents and deans of translation and interpretation institutes from more than 40 universities and officers from the UN were present at the CIUTI Plenary Forum. Cao Deming made a speech in the morning of January 16: “La traduction: pierre angulaire de la coopération entre l’occident et l’orient”. He elaborated on SISU’s advantages on translation and interpretation as SISU was the first China’s university to join CIUTI and the only council member in Asia. He also suggested CIUTI to set the Chinese working team at SISU in order to coordinate its following work in China. Zhang Ailing, making a speech in the afternoon, explained China’s “New Normal” growth model and the importance of quality in translation and interpretation education. On January 17, Chai Mingjiong attended the CIUTI Council and discussed the following arrangements of next step with the other 9 council members.
Initiated in 1961, as the world authority for the education of translation and interpretation, CIUTI commits to high-quality and professional translation and interpretation through assistance to translators and interpreters to get them ready in the developing career, global theoretical researches on translation and interpretation and professional training of translators and interpreters. It serves as a platform for international cooperation between universities as well as an opportunity for SISU to develop a more extensive and effective exchange with international organizations and universities in academics, researches and teaching experiences.
