Hyper-Disciplinary Awareness in Linguistic Study

  • This present paper discusses why and how language research cooperates with other related disciplines to effectively account for and explain the linguistic system.Language covers not merely language expressions (or speech), but also the system dwelling in the dynamic neural networks of the brain.Within the perspective of the basic properties of language, the author focuses on the study of the hyper-disciplinary awareness in constructing theoretical models and the relevant scientific methods of hypothetical-modelling and convergent-testing.In the light of this hyper-disciplinary awareness, the author discusses four major issues concerning the construction and verification of the theoretical model:macro-structure of the linguistic system, symbols vs.relations, theoretical process vs.cognitive process, and generality vs.usage distribution. To be consistent with the basic properties of the linguistic system, the author argues for the effective strategies to deal with the four major research problems.
