Study of Verb-Construction Semantic Relation: A Cognitive Event Frame Approach

  • Besides matched and mismatched verb-construction semantic relations, the authors have uncovered several types of non-matched relations, such as those in multi-matched clauses, unmatched clauses and verbless clauses. The non-matched relations cannot be adequately accounted for in any current constructionist approaches.Based upon the fusion principle of Goldberg's cognitive construction grammar and Talmy's event frame with its windowing-gapping organizations, we have developed a new Cognitive Event Frame to adequately account for the Chinese non-matched constructions.
