Intervention as a New Approach to Applied Conversation Analysis
Abstract
Intervention as a new research perspective in applied Conversation Analysis (CA) refers to the study where CA can be applied to a practical problem as it plays out in interaction, with the intention of bringing about some sort of positive changes.Based on the characteristics, methods and procedures of intervention, this paper explores case studies of intervention in such sectors as primary-care visits, speech therapy, jobseeker interviews, telephone helplines and new technologies. Therefore, CA, as an empirical research methodology, is imbued with positive practical significance as well as distinctive academic value in the studies of verbal interactions.
