The Basic Concepts of Bourdieu’s Social Pragmatics

  • Pierre Bourdieu is reputed as a distinguished western contemporary sociologist and philosopher. However, his writings are also full of thinking based on facts and activities of language, full of reflective analysis of linguistic research, particularly social pragmatics analysis.Language is treated as a kind of market exchange in Bourdieu’s social pragmatics analysis and “pratique” is the basic value orientation.Based on this, Bourdieu uses interest, space, capital, habits and the relationship between them to give a creative answer to a series of propositions such as why the actors need to practice, where to practice, what they practice with and how to practice, etc.
